Design ideas for a contemporary family bathroom

03 Jul

A family bathroom needs to work as a practical and relaxing space for the entire family. There's no reason why you can't have a stylish bathroom that is suitable for all ages. Below we share some bathroom design ideas.

Storage

One of the most important factors to consider when designing a family bathroom is that of storage. The more storage space, the better. Be sure to incorporate large vanity units along the walls in your bathroom, that will hold many of your toiletries and children's toys. For a small bathroom use a cubbyhole, and add lots of shelves.

Family friendly colour scheme

The colour scheme of both the décor and bathroom furniture needs to be suitable for everyone in the house. Good ideas are those along the nautical theme, with the use of blues and greens. If you want a more minimalist feel to the bathroom, then keep to white, and add a splash of colour via accessories.

Child friendly

The family bathroom needs to be child friendly, so this means everything from the shower, down to the flooring that is installed. The shower should be fitted with an adjustable thermostat to avoid scalding, and the toilet seat would benefit from being a 'soft closing' lid. The bath needs to be ergonomically designed to allow children easy access in and out of the bath, or to allow easier access for an adult to bathe them. It's also essential that flooring is textured or non-slip.

Space

The family bathroom should be designed with adequate space so as to be able to move freely around. There should be space around the bath, and adequate space to comfortably use the sink. Ideally, more than one person should be able to move around the bathroom and without imposing on someone else. Contemporary bathrooms designed for the family should always be practical.

Walk in shower

A walk in shower is a great design idea to incorporate into the family bathroom. Just ensure that it is easy to get in and out of, with no step, especially for young children, and that the flooring is non-slip.
